As the founder of The Catch-up Center—and as a mother of children with learning differences—I have sat on both sides of the table.

I’ve been the parent who wondered, “Should I give the school a little more time?”And I’ve been the educator who sees, every single day, what happens when well-meaning waiting turns into years of struggle.

Let me say this clearly and compassionately:

Early intervention is not optional—it is essential.

The Cost of Waiting

Many parents are told—or tell themselves—things like:

“They’ll catch up eventually.”
“Let’s see how this year goes.”
“The school says they’re making progress.”

Here’s the hard truth: waiting does not help a struggling learner.

Schools are doing the best they can with limited time, large class sizes, and competing demands. But even with great teachers, schools are often not designed to provide the intensive, individualized instruction that students with learning differences need.

While we wait:

Gaps widen instead of close
Confidence erodes
Anxiety increases
Students begin to believe they are “not smart”

And once confidence is gone, learning becomes even harder.

Confidence grows alongside academic skills
